About WDEC
University Grants Commission (UGC) recommends the measures for ensuring the safety of women and programs for gender sensitization on the campus. According to the task force appointed by UGC, the recommendations include the need for setting up Women’s Development Cell and Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell at colleges and universities. “Women’s studies centers in universities and women’s development cells in colleges must be strengthened and provided the means to function autonomously. At the same time, they should be enabled to work together with gender sensitization associations and committees in the campus on educational and preventive work.” (page.7, ` http://www.ugc.ac.in/pdfnews/5873997_SAKSHAM-BOOK.pdf )
To ensure the above measure into action KES Shroff College of Arts and Commerce has started Women Development and Empowerment Cell (WDEC) in the year 2011. WDEC works as a forum for guidance, counselling, training and welfare programmes for women in our campus. The primary objective is to build a Gender Sensitized community within the campus as well as in the society by organizing lectures, workshops, and discussions on topical, pertinent issues.
Objectives of WDEC
- To create a greater sense of awareness and a deeper understanding of the importance of gender equality.
- To provide a forum for discussion and deliberation on a range of issues from empowerment to environment.
- Empowering and orienting women to recognize their true potential and to help them attain their own stand in a competing world.
- To enhance the self-esteem of women and empower them in making pertinent decisions.
Learning Outcome of WDEC
- Gender equality will lead to a safe and inclusive learning environment for learners.
- Empowering women will improve the health of women and their families, will build linkages within communities, and will promote economic development.
- Self Esteem will lead the students to accept the challenges of life
